Colour Information

This product has a dry chemical finish (standard finish for outdoor canvas fabrics), colour is built into the finishing chemical together with any flame retardant, rot and waterproof finishes and then is applied to the canvas fabric. The dry chemical finish is impregnated into the fabric.

This is not a VAT dyed product therefore there maybe some initial leaching of colour (apart from white).

Canvas Care Guidelines

Pre-use Weathering

Before using a canvas tarpaulin, tent or marquee for the first time, the canvas will need to be pre-conditioned or ‘weathered’ in order for the structure to have its own natural water repellence.

Pre-soak with a garden hose or similar; avoid high pressure washers as these may remove surface proofing. The fabric needs to completely soak in order to allow the fibres to swell and relax/shrink back to tighten the weave on drying. This wetting/drying process will not only allow the canvas to condition and gain its full water proofing properties, but will also help close up the stitching holes.

The process of weathering may take more than one attempt. From industry feedback and experience, usually two attempts will suffice. The determining factors are the amount of water allowed to fully soak into the canvas and the speed of the drying process from the sun. Proofed canvas fibres expand very slowly.

Maintenance

Allow any mud or dirt to dry. Gently brush off with a soft, lint free, fabric pad. The fabric should be cleaned with a damp sponge using pure cold water. No detergents or power washers should be used as this will remove the rot resistant and waterproof finish. Regular reproofing is recommended.

Storing

Fabrics should never be packed and stored damp. The fabric must be completely aired dry. All natural fibres are susceptible to mildew. For mildew to grow it requires heat and moisture. Mildew will result quickly on canvas if folded away wet or stored in a damp place. If the fabric is being stored for any length of time, this should be in a dry, well ventilated area.
